Last Supper Mural and Stations of the Cross Upon completion of the
present church building in 1959, former parishioners Kenneth and Rosemond
Prince, both graduates of the Chicago Art Institute, painted a mural of
the Last Supper inside the church over the entrance doors. The mural,
done with a Hawaiian flair, depicts Christ and the Twelve Apostles sitting
around a table with a view of the Koolau Mountains in the background.
The Apostles represent the many different cultures of Hawaii and there are
two Hawaiian women in the foreground. The Princes also did the
parish’s Stations of the Cross in a cast-concrete relief:
Statuary Outside the church: St. George (in bell-tower niche); Our Lady of Grace (water fountain grotto)
St. George Mural and Crucifix
Punch Needle Embroidery On both sides of the sanctuary above the glass louvers are original “punch-embroidery” works of art by parishioner and artist Anna Cho, wife of our Deacon, Edward Cho. The first work, Pentecost, was completed in August 1995 and hangs on the Makapu`u side of the sanctuary. The second work, inspired by the gospel of Matthew 19: 13-15 (“Let the children come to me . . .”), was completed in December 2000 and hangs on the Olomana side of the sanctuary:
